ULTRAcel RF & HIFU Skin Tightening

What is ULTRAcel?

ULTRAcel delivers 3 difference skin treatment modalities through one very clever system; Grid Fractional Radiofrequency (GFR), Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling (FRM) and High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound (FUS). These treatment types can be used individually, or in bespoke combinations to deliver the best result for you. It is the ultimate multi-layered non-surgical skin tightening device.  With little or no downtime, ULTRAcel uses heat energy to help to reduce skin sagging by tightening your skin, typically the jowl and neck area. It can also be used to improve overall skin texture and tone, to diminish the appearance of large pores, and to treat some types of acne scarring.

How does it work?

The radiofrequency delivers heat, which affects collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. This causes deep structures of the skin to tighten, and over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced. Ultrasound waves are then beamed to a controlled targeted depth of the skin where thermal heat energy tightens and contracts underlying tissues, right down to the muscle layer. Thermal deep tissue treatments stimulate the growth of the new healthy collagen for prolonged and more intensive tightening.

How long does it last?

The results from these treatments are variable, depending on the original quality of the skin and degree of damage to be treated. The skin will begin to feel smoother and tighter even after the first treatment. Results from the treatment will continue to improve for up to six months, increasing with additional treatments. Most patients need 1-3 treatments for maximum result.

Who is not suitable for this treatment?

As with most aesthetic treatments, ULTRAcel should be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not suitable if you have a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator (or certain metal implants). If the microneedling modality is being used this is not suitable if you are on blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, active skin infection or allergy to local anaesthetic cream.

What are the risks and potential side effects?

Depending on the treatment chosen by your and your medical professional, you can resume your normal daily routine the same day. Swelling and redness of the skin with the non-invasive treatments (GFR and FUS) can occur but is usually short-lived. After microneedling there will be redness of the skin that lasts 12-24 hours for most people, but can be present for up to a week depending on your current skin health and healing. Bruising can also occur.

Aftercare

With GFR and FUS you can return to your normal activities immediately. After the FRM microneedling treatment it may be up to 3 days before normal activities are resumed, depending on how quickly your skin settles. As always, it is important to protect your skin with sunscreen.
